​A Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) applicant is not obligated to use the services of the Local Authority who have/will have approved the grant. The applicant has the choice to manage the process themselves and can appoint a Surveyor and Builder of their choice to develop a proposed scheme. The relevant Authority will set out any specific requirement they may have in relation to them releasing grant funds and you will have to ensure that all appropriate works have been completed.

This route is often referred to by Local Authorities as the ‘non–agency’ route.The ‘non-agency’ route offers more choice and control for the client and should cut down significantly on waiting times, for both appointment of a Surveyor to your case and completion of works. Ultimately the client gets to ensure, as it should be, that they are and remain the focal point of the required adaptation or home improvement work.
